The history of tennis is filled with exceptional matches. Selecting the top 5 of all time is a daunting task, but we have taken on the challenge.

#5 Chris Evert vs. Martina Navratilova - 1985 French Open final

Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova faced each other eighty times over their careers, but their duel at the 1985 French Open is arguably the most memorable. Evert won a match full of twists and turns on a tense day, where she was even down 0-40 at 5-5 in the third set. However, she managed to come back and win the game before breaking Navratilova’s serve to close out the 12th game of the set and win the match.

#4 Pete Sampras vs. Andre Agassi - 2001 US Open quarterfinals

The two giants of their era, Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, with their completely opposite playing styles, always provided unforgettable shows. Their clash in the quarterfinals of the 2001 US Open is often cited as their peak. Both players, slightly in decline, still offered an epic battle concluded by four tie-breaks. The power of Sampras' serve was decisive, with neither player managing to break the other's serve.

#3 Roger Federer vs. Andy Roddick - 2009 Wimbledon final

Roger Federer, often considered the greatest player of all time, could have lost this match without dishonor. Facing him was an inspired Andy Roddick who, although often defeated by the Swiss, nearly turned the tide by winning the most games ever recorded by a finalist at Wimbledon. Roddick conceded his serve only once, but Federer found the necessary answers to prevail.

#2 Björn Borg vs. John McEnroe - 1980 Wimbledon final

This final pitted McEnroe’s explosive temperament against Borg’s cool demeanor, in a clash of titans. McEnroe won the first set, but Borg dominated the next two and had two match points in the third. McEnroe snatched the fourth set 18-16 in the tie-break, but Borg finished by winning the fifth set and thereby securing his fifth consecutive Wimbledon title.

#1 Rafael Nadal vs. Roger Federer - 2008 Wimbledon final

The duel between Federer and Nadal at Wimbledon in 2008 is written in golden letters in the annals of tennis. At the peak of their form, despite Nadal's reputation as a clay court specialist, he took the lead by winning the first two sets 6-4. Federer resisted, saving championship points in the fourth set to level the match at two sets each. The fifth set, of rare intensity, saw Nadal triumph 9-7, breaking Federer’s winning streak at Wimbledon and winning the longest final in the tournament's history.
